shine / skitter magazine’s 2015 launch gala in cape town

How often do you get to spend the evening with 4 beautiful cover-girls? Okay, these cover-girls happen to be dear friends of mine and I was lucky enough to scoop an invitation to the Cape Town launch of  Shine/Skitter Magazine last Tuesday, 24 Novermber 2015, after they dazzled Johannesburg the previous week showcasing their covers. Shine/Skitter Magazine is one of South Africa’s most prestigious glossy luxury magazines and this year they featured four of SA’s top personalities, each with their own cover; Top Billing TV Magazine Show’s Jade Hubner, Afternoon Express Show’s Bonnie Mbuli as well as Expresso Show Morning Show’s Leigh-Anne Williams and Zoë Brown. Certainly an evening to remember, guests were shuttled in style by Mercedes-Benz and offered a delicious glass of Graham Beck champagne upon arrival. Celebrity and media guests included TV personality Tanya Nefdt, comedian Angel Campey, blogger Jasna Zellerhoff as well as Khanya Siyengo and food blogger Ilse Fourie.

Treated to delicious canapés while we waited for the guests of honour to arrive, the stunning Mercedes-Benz showroom showcased some high-end cars to admire and dream about owning. It was a spectacular evening and even included some surprise prizes including luxurious skincare, fragrances and diamonds!

calvin klein arrives in cape town in style

A fashion brand that needs absolutely no introduction, Calvin Klein opened it’s doors in Cape Town, South Africa in November 2014 with a soiree to rival all others. SA’s top celebrities and socialites including Cosmopolitan Magazine SA‘s Sexiest Man 2014 & TV Personality Jonathan Boynton-Lee, TV personality Maps Maponyane and Syfy Channel‘s ‘Dominion‘ actress Kim Engelbrecht took to the red carpet at this prestigious launch event. With mouth watering hors d’oevres, champagne and wine to celebrate, I was delighted to see so many friends and familiar faces including JP Duminy with his gorgeous wife Sue Duminy, Cindy Nell, Catriona Andrew, Ty Keogh, Tanya van Graan with her husband Kasper Kristoffersen, Tammy B, Bjorn Steinbach, Roxy Louw and, always willing to help with anything, comedian Anne Hirsch showed me around the store (pics on Denzil Jacobs Photography Facebook Page tomorrow). It certainly was a spectacular evening and after taking a look around the store, it’s all about casual chic for men and women (jeans starting at around R1800.00 per pair) all the way to formal suiting for men and everyone’s favourite, Calvin Klein underwear for men an women. Summer has arrived in South Africa, and for the third year running I was invited to attend the annual Pink Polo Charity Event held at Val de Vie Estate, in Cape Town. This year, the main sponsor of this prestigious cancer awareness charity event was Cintron along with Vodacom. Guests in attendance at the Cintron Pink Polo 2014 included former Miss South Africa Melinda Bam, Olympic Gold Medalist Swimmer Ryk Neethling, international actress and radio personality Natalie Becker, television personality Tanya Nefdt and models Roxy Louw, Joelle Kayembe, Marine Paulsen (with her fiancé Willem Swanepoel) as well as socialites, Tammy Cameron, Nambitha Ben-Mazwi, Peta Eggierth-Symes (owner of Pallu Boutique) and Jasna Zellerhoff.

We were treated to a phenomenal polo match, delicious canapés and champagne, and if that wasn’t enough, the beautiful designs of Warrick Gautier for Jenni Button SS2014 fashion show. A previously unreleased photograph of South African fitness writer (The Jog Blog), model, television personality (Survivor SA) and my good friend Brigitte Willers. As the seasons were changing from autumn to summer here in Cape Town late last year, Brigitte and I met at her beautiful home to do a little photoshoot. This is one of my favorite images from that shoot, aside from the photographs featuring her little boy, Sam. A wonderful day rounded off with a few splashes of champagne and sunny weather. Such a pleasure photographing you Brigitte!

On Saturday, 1 March 2014, South Africa’s elite gathered at the prestigious Val De Vie Estate in Paarl, Cape Town to indulge in luxury, canapés, champagne, fashion and of cause a polo tournament at the Veuve Clicquot Masters Polo 2014. This year, as the official fashion sponsor of the VCM2014, D’Ore Boutique (situated in Sandton, Johannesburg) graciously dressed some of our most influential celebrities including model and actress Tanya van Graan, international model Katryn Kruger and model Cindy Nell. International television personality Jennifer Su sparkled in a dress by Vanessa G London for D’Ore Boutique. Wearing a gorgeous summer dress selected from her new online boutique, Just For Tonight, Sue Duminy looked amazing. After the recent release of her first fragrance for women, “Jeannie in a Bottle” (now in stores at Clicks nationwide), television personality Jeannie D, looked radiant in a dress also by D’Ore Boutique.It was wonderful spending the afternoon watching polo and sipping Veuve Clicquot champagne with SA singing sensation Jimmy Nevis, journalist Clayton Morar, owner of Pallu Boutique (situated in Sandton, Johannesburg) Peta Eggierth-Symes, international actress Natalie Becker, presenter Tracey Lange, celebrity stylist Jasna Zellerhoff, beauty blogger Leigh van den Berg, dance music duo Locnville (Andrew and Brian Chaplin), Olympic Gold Medalist Ryk Neethling, Misty Louw, television personality Liezel van der Westhuizen and so many more, with a guest appearance by model Roxy Louw.

Ready, set, go… 153rd annual l’ormarins queen’s plate

Without a doubt my personal favorite equestrian event on the social calendar in South Africa, The 153rd L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate takes place this weekend, 11 January 2014 at the Kenilworth Race Course in Cape Town. Guests including some of South Africa’s biggest names in entertainment, media and television cordially dress to the nines in blue and white, as this stylish event’s dress code demands.  In it’s own league as a horse-racing event, the Queen’s Plate over the years have hosted celebrities including former Miss South Africa & television personality  Jo-Ann Strauss, Jennifer Su, the gorgeous (and for the second time, radiantly pregnant) Lee-Ann Liebenberg with her husband Nicky Van Der Walt. Also seen at the Queen’s Plate, SA’s very own Olympic swimmer Ryk Neethling, television personality on SABC3‘s Top Billing and Top Travel Janez Vermeiren,  Roxy Louw, Kuli Roberts, Marc Lottering, Chad Saaiman, Pearl Thusi, Leigh-Anne Williams, Natalie Becker, Tanya Nefdt, Gina Myers, Kia Johnson, Elana Afrika. This year promises to be as elegant as ever as guests fly from all over the country to attend.

magnum ‘pink & black’ launch in cape town

Last week, Magnum South Africa invited some of Cape Town’s top names in media as well as celebrity guests to introduce their new campaign, Magnum “Pink & Black”. The event took place at Cape Town’s summer hot-spot, Shimmy Beach Club with our host for the afternoon, Top Billing presenter Janez Vermeiren. Guests included Top Travel‘s Jeannie D, who is set to release her debut fragrance available in stores soon as well as Top Billing presenter and the face of Revlon South Africa Bonang Matheba. The event unveiled a first in South Africa, a live Twitter Auction where participants could win prizes including iPads and designer shoes. With canapés and champagne, guests including model Lisa Cowley, radio personality Gareth Cliff and television personalities Ewan Strydom, Danine Naidoo, Tanya Nefdt and Tracey Lange and myself certainly felt spoilt by Magnum as the afternoon progressed. tiger of sweden launches in cape town

With a legacy for excellence in fashion and clothing design perfected over 110 years, Tiger Of Sweden has opened it’s doors in Cape Town. Guests including singer Danny K, television personalities Jennifer Su, Liezel van der Westhuizen and Leigh-Anne Williams, actress Vanessa Haywood as well as former Miss South Africa Nicole Flint were invited to enjoy an evening of fine fashion, canapés and champagne at the official launch of the new Tiger of Sweden at the V&A Waterfront. It was certainly a spectacular event with models showcasing some of the brands most iconic and modern pieces while guests browsed the collections and tried a few garments on.

“It’s a philosophy in a sense, we want to have a different cut to make us more unique, “ Ronnie McDonald, responsible for the menswear tailoring department, tells me, “It can mean a detail, it can mean a silhouette, fabric. It’s the idea that we’re constantly striving to be unique in some ways.” Over a glass of sauvignon blanc at the Table Bay Hotel in Cape Town, I chatted with Fredrik Folkesson, Product Manager and Head Sourcer Denim, about their jeans. “We looked at the market, we wanted to do a different cut when it came to silhouettes and fits, to [take] out the cow-boy and put in the rockstar instead.” says Fredrik, “A bit of rock and roll.”

Later, the festivities continued as a select few guests were invited to enjoy dinner and champagne at Shimmy Beach Club. One of Cape Town’s hottest summer spots, the evening was enjoyed by celebrities and some of South Africa’s top bloggers including Leigh van den Berg, Elrico Bellingan, Karisa Nichols, Clouds Drummond and Jasna Zellerhoff.

With amazing views of Cape Town, the Romney Park All Suite Hotel & Spa celebrated the launch of their new Accent Ultra Machine last Thursday. It was an evening of champagne, good wine, conversation and canapés as Marina Nestel (from The Little Black Book PR) pulled out all the stops to ensure a wonderful event.
