How often do you get to spend the evening with 4 beautiful cover-girls? Okay, these cover-girls happen to be dear friends of mine and I was lucky enough to scoop an invitation to the Cape Town launch of  Shine/Skitter Magazine last Tuesday, 24 Novermber 2015, after they dazzled Johannesburg the previous week showcasing their covers. Shine/Skitter Magazine is one of South Africa’s most prestigious glossy luxury magazines and this year they featured four of SA’s top personalities, each with their own cover; Top Billing TV Magazine Show’s Jade Hubner, Afternoon Express Show’s Bonnie Mbuli as well as Expresso Show Morning Show’s Leigh-Anne Williams and ZoĂ« Brown. Certainly an evening to remember, guests were shuttled in style by Mercedes-Benz and offered a delicious glass of Graham Beck champagne upon arrival. Celebrity and media guests included TV personality Tanya Nefdt, comedian Angel Campey, blogger Jasna Zellerhoff as well as Khanya Siyengo and food blogger Ilse Fourie.

Treated to delicious canapés while we waited for the guests of honour to arrive, the stunning Mercedes-Benz showroom showcased some high-end cars to admire and dream about owning. It was a spectacular evening and even included some surprise prizes including luxurious skincare, fragrances and diamonds!

08.15 4th Street Wine, Lightly Sparkled, Launch, Cape Town, Roxy Louw, Frank Muggeridge (by Denzil Jacobs)

So of cause I was late for my hair appointment at Palladium Hair Co. last week (I mean, c’mon folks, I work on DJ time here!), but luckily my good friend and stylist Jasna Zellerhoff came to the rescue! After a few glasses of wine at their home, Tyrone Nell, his boyfriend Nic During and I hopped into Jasna‘s car and headed to the 4th Street Wines “Lightly Sparkled Launch” 1950’s themed event in Cape Town. Now, I knew from experience that 4th Street Wine don’t do things half way and that this was going to be a spectacular event, and it was. We arrived and were immediately whisked to the photo-wall, took some snaps and joined our friends including the gorgeous model and surfer Roxy Louw with her cousin Frank Muggeridge, television and radio personality Kia Johnson, Thandie Kupe, Sue Duminy, Busi Nteyi, Matthew Hallett and many more on the dance floor.

Guests went all out in 1950’s style which made for a whimsical evening with live entertainment by Tamara Dey, delicious canapĂ©s, lots of candy and of cause 4th Street Lightly Sparkled Wine. It was lovely seeing so many friends including fashion blogger Clouds Drummond as we partied the evening away. This week, 4th Street Wines took the launch to Johannesburg with guests including some of South Africa’s most loved celebrities such as Jennifer Su. Of cause, the evening of fun didn’t end there, but let’s stop talking secrets, haha! Thank you 4th Street Wine for a lovely evening (and most importantly your delicious new vino)!

Special thanks as always to Hilton Weiner and Levi’s SA for making sure I always look good!

fashion: elie tahari spring/summer 2014

04.01 Elie Tahari, Spring Summer 2014, SS2014, SS14 Collection (by Denzil Jacobs)

Celebrating 40 years at the top of the fashion industry, Elie Tahari’s proves he’s still got what it takes to deliver cutting-edge style and modern sophistication, in his latest Spring 2014 Collection. Inspired by the architecture of the Brazilian capital city of Brasília, created by Oscar Niemeyer in the 1950s, Tahari says the collection “brings together elements of sport with futuristic components.” Juxtaposing contrasts of strong linear shapes against graceful curves, Tahari channels the spirit and architecture of the city into the collection, using sporty high-tech fabrics, well structured garments and a cool, muted colour palate of white, mint foam, light iris, soft sky and rose mist. Here and there, bold graphics, pops of colour and iridescent snakeskin prints add some diversity to the iconic collection of bold, geometric styles, combined with relaxed fits, in an array of luxe fabrics, featuring trademark Tahari laser-cut leather, fitted scuba and raw-edge silicone.

Key items in the Spring 2014 Collection:

The Dress: Zip-front, curve-clinging leather dresses, with boxy basket weaves and eyelet detailing, bold prints and pops of colour, the perfect office-to-outing dress.

The Swing Coat: A statement cage mesh swing coat in white leather

The Blouse: Long and sheer in icy pale blue, or navy, crĂšme and trendsetting ombre print.

The Pant: luxe and free-flowing – paired with a structured piece on top and a sexy shoe, to create a polished look.

The Heel: Neon suede, snake print pumps and leather sandals.

The Sweatshirt: Modern luxury, epitomized with an elegant, subtle print

The Black Jumpsuit

Meanwhile, in commemoration of his 40th anniversary, Elie Tahari has produced a 20-piece capsule collection featuring updates of signature pieces from the label’s archives, entitled  ‘Elie Tahari Edition 1974’. Representing Tahari’s iconic looks dating back to 1974, the year he opened his first boutique on Madison Avenue, key pieces include a modern take on the 70 style tube top as well as jumpsuits, power suits, the classic tuxedo as well as signature leather pieces, all of which were top sellers at some point during Tahari’s years at the top of the fashion industry. “I named each piece from the collection after an iconic New York landmark,” says Tahari.

Testament to Elie Tahari’s unique talent and ability to predict what a woman wants from fashion before she even knows it, these collections hit the right notes in the style stakes, showcasing Tahari’s genius designs and flair for mixing sensual fabrics, subtle textures, strong tailoring and detailing, which have come to define the global brand.

Renowned for exquisite design elements, like laser-cut leather dresses and jackets, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Hudson and Leighton Meester are some of the celebrities which adore Elie Tahari’s simple yet stylishly modern designs. For over four decades Elie Tahari has succeeded in creating beautiful, tailored and upscale-office friendly clothes for women, inspired by his belief that “clothing should be quieter than the woman so that her true beauty can shine through”. Elie Tahari has a particularly large following amongst the fashion-savvy career women, who rely on the designer for consistently simple, tasteful, luxurious and modern collections.

Elie Tahari is exclusively available in South Africa at: D’OrĂ© – Store U73 Sandton City, Sandton Drive, Johannesburg – contact: 011 783 7316/8 or www.dorefashion.co.za.
