south african model, roxy louw turns 29!

Last week I was invited to attend my dear friend, South African model, Roxy Louw‘s 29th birthday party in Cape Town. A low-key celebration, with some big names in South African entertainment, the guest list included tv presenters Jeannie D, Siv Ngesi and Liezel van der Westhuizen to name a few, though it was certainly a family and friends affair with Roxy’s entire family in attendance as well as close family friends. It was a festive evening as guests enjoyed drinks, snacks and of cause the birthday cake was a treat!

Roxy Louw's 29th Birthday Party

Blazing her own trail, Roxy has become a well know celebrity figure in South Africa, with features and covers for magazines such as FHM, Maxim, Sports Illustrated with both local and international prints. Lately, among other business endeavours,¬†she has been spending some time globe-trotting as she showcased Charmaine Taylor’s Legacy Collection jewellery line¬†to an international audience. Happy birthday Rox!

01.27-Calvin-Klein-Cape-Town-Launch-Kim-Engelbrecht-Maps-Maponyane-Cindy-Nell-Tanya-van-Graan-Sue-Duminy-Denzil-Jacobs

A fashion brand that needs absolutely no introduction, Calvin Klein opened it’s doors in Cape Town, South Africa in November 2014 with a soiree to rival all others. SA’s top celebrities and socialites including¬†Cosmopolitan Magazine SA‘s Sexiest Man 2014 &¬†TV Personality Jonathan Boynton-Lee, TV personality Maps Maponyane and Syfy Channel‘s¬†Dominion actress Kim Engelbrecht took to the red carpet at this prestigious launch event. With mouth watering hors d’oevres, champagne and wine to celebrate, I was delighted to see so many friends and familiar faces including JP Duminy with his gorgeous wife Sue Duminy, Cindy Nell, Catriona Andrew,¬†Ty Keogh, Tanya van Graan with her husband Kasper Kristoffersen, Tammy B, Bjorn Steinbach, Roxy Louw and, always willing to help with anything, comedian Anne Hirsch showed me around the store (pics on Denzil Jacobs Photography¬†Facebook Page tomorrow). It certainly was a spectacular evening and after taking a look around the store, it’s all about casual chic for men and women (jeans starting at around R1800.00 per pair) all the way to formal suiting for men and everyone’s favourite, Calvin Klein underwear for men an women. All current ranges on par with what you’d find at CK globally.

Stop by at Calvin Klein at V&A Waterfront and pick up a little something CK… you know you want to!

the 154th annual l’ormarins queen’s plate

01.18-LOrmarins-Queens-Plate-Bonang-Matheba-Maps-Maponyane-Ryk-Neethling-Cindy-Nell-Liezel-Van-Der-Westhuizen-Denzil-Jacobs

Without a doubt the event I look forward to most in January each year, the prestigious and ever elegant 154th L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate took place last week in Cape Town. I was graciously invited and immediately made my way to Hilton Weiner to discuss outfit options, as this event’s dress-code is strictly blue and white. As always, the kind folks at Hilton Weiner prepared a few options for me and you can see what we ended up with on my Facebook Page, but back to the event itself.

No surprise, South Africa’s favourite personalities donned their finest blue &¬†white, not forgetting intricate fascinators and hats,¬†as the races and betting got underway. In the indulgent Stud Club Marquee, guests included Bonang Matheba¬†(wearing Gert-Johan Coetzee),¬†Nthato Mashishi, Jo-Ann Strauss¬†(wearing Stefania Morland),¬†Cindy Nell, Natalie Becker, Jimmy Nevis, Ryk Neethling (with his gorgeous lady), Liezel van der Westhuizen and the ever dapper Mr Maps Maponyane, just to name a few! Socialites socialized, horse-racing enthusiasts placed bets and I, well I enjoyed an afternoon with some amazing people and friends, getting to do what I love most, take photographs. I think what’s most appealing about this event is the simple elegance of it all, it’s Hampton’s style in Cape Town with amazing food and drink and even more amazing company. No frills, just effortless style. This was my fourth consecutive LQP, and it remains a firm favorite. Don’t ask me about the races tho, I don’t remember seeing any horses *wink*!

We were treated to a phenomenal polo match, delicious canap√©s and champagne, and if that wasn’t enough, the beautiful¬†designs of Warrick Gautier for Jenni Button SS2014 fashion show. It was certainly a celebration of women as guests embraced the sentiment of the event throughout the afternoon at the countryside.¬†Special thank you to creater and founder of¬†Pink Polo in Cape Town, Edith Venter. 08.30 BUC Fitness Club Launch, Cape Town, Concetta Rothschild, Paul Rothschild, Sharlene Lawrence, Nambitha Ben-Mazwi, Tracy McGregor, Kuyan Kotzen, Brent Thompson, Jasna Zellerhoff, Ryan Warrick (by Denzil Jacobs)

Certainly the high-light of my week last week was attending the launch of BUC Fitness Club in Sea Point, Cape Town. This state of the art fitness club is like none other, situated at The¬†Point, 76 Regent Road, Sea Point, Cape Town, members enjoy a complete fitness regime with some of South Africa’s top personal trainers and equipment. BUC is also the home of the increasingly popular S.W.E.A.T.1000, hailed by Elle Magazine as “one of the hottest fitness trends for summer.”¬†It was so nice to see fit and friendly faces including the owners Paul Rothschild and Andrew Rothschild along with Paul‘s lovely wife and my good friend Concetta Rothschild. Guests (and members) in attendance included models Tracy McGregor, Roxy Louw, Brent Thompson, Beverley Dean, fashion designer Hendrik Vermeulen, actors Bjorn Steinbach and Alex McGregor, fashion stylist Jasna Zellerhoff and my guest for the evening stylist¬†Kuyan Kotzen. It was certainly a party to remember, and definitely the place to return to burn off those canap√© & wine calories. Check out www.buc.cc and¬†www.sweat1000.com¬†to find out more about memberships or just to book a session – I’ll be stopping by BUC¬†and¬†Sweat 1000 soon and will be sure to write about my experience here, stay tuned… Summer is coming!!

luxury: tom ford private blend fragrance – tuscan leather

08.20 Tom Ford, Private Blend, Fragrance, Tuscan Leather (by Denzil Jacobs)

Most of my friends understand (or at least pretend to understand) my love of all things luxury, but here¬†I’ve decided to talk a little about another passion of mine, fragrances. The Tom Ford¬†Private Blend Fragrance¬†range¬†to me could be the best of both worlds, combining my passion for luxury and my love of fragrances. One of the most influential men in fashion (in the world), the genius that is Mr Tom Ford¬†has released an impressive line of niche fragrances made of the finest ingredients. I sniffed a rose bases fragrance by Mr Ford called Cafe Rose, and it smells like an actual rose, like you’ve jumped into a rose… unparalelled! I’d like to talk a bit¬†about one of my all time favorite Tom Ford fragrances that I recently purchased and love to wear out or even just at lounging at home if I need a little reminder of luxury (just to put a smile on my face), Tuscan Leather.

Tuscan Leather, this niche fragrance is so incredibly complex and actually smells like delicious, good old-fashioned fine¬†leather. With a¬†rustic robust opening, your senses are immediately whisked off to an ethereal vintage world. Hints of raspberry adds sweetness as the fragrance dries down, with the main note,¬†leather, ever-present. It projects just enough (not too much, not too little) and lasts the whole day. It’s dry down is simply sweet leather, simple and elegant.

THIS ULTRA-SEXY INTERPRETATION CAPTURES THE PRIMAL, ANIMALISTIC SCENT OF LEATHER AND IT’S SMOOTH VOLUPTUOUS QUALITIES. A MODERN CLASSIC, THE ADDITION OF OLIBANUM, NIGHT BLOOMING JASMINE, AND BLACK SUEDE GIVES IT A DISTINCTIVE, MODERN SPIN THAT IS RAW YET REFINED, SENSUAL YET SOPHISTICATED.” – Tom Ford describes Tuscan Leather.

I absolutely love this fragrance, with Tom Ford‘s Tobacco Vanille coming in at a close second in my starting line-up of my all time favorite fragrances. I have worn Tuscan Leather to many events, premieres and social occasions and find that it’s most suited for black tie events, a little dressing up with a cheeky touch (raspberry sweetness) but also perfect for casual wear. Confident,¬†sexy, cheeky, fun, formal, strong and mostly… manly. This is a very masculine¬†fragrance in my opinion, however it is marketed as unisex (as is all Tom Ford Private Blend Fragrances). That said, I don’t believe any fragrance is for men or women only, whatever fragrance you like, you should wear regardless of the marketed target demographic.

The best leather fragrance in my opinion РTom Ford Tuscan Leather.

Ps. Tom Ford Private Blend Fragrance range is now available at Edgars (V&A Waterfront) in Cape Town. It’s not cheap, but boy is it worth it!!

4th street wines introduces ‘lightly sparkled’ range in 50’s style

08.15 4th Street Wine, Lightly Sparkled, Launch, Cape Town, Roxy Louw, Frank Muggeridge (by Denzil Jacobs)

So of cause I was late for¬†my hair appointment at Palladium Hair Co. last week (I mean, c’mon folks, I work on DJ time here!), but luckily my good friend and stylist Jasna Zellerhoff came to the rescue! After a few glasses of wine at their home, Tyrone Nell, his boyfriend Nic During and I hopped into Jasna‘s car and headed to the 4th Street Wines “Lightly Sparkled Launch” 1950’s themed event in Cape Town. Now, I knew from experience that 4th Street Wine¬†don’t do things half way and that this was going to be a spectacular event, and it was. We arrived and were¬†immediately whisked to the photo-wall, took some snaps and joined our friends including the gorgeous model and surfer Roxy Louw with her cousin Frank¬†Muggeridge, television and radio personality Kia Johnson, Thandie Kupe, Sue Duminy, Busi Nteyi, Matthew Hallett and many more on the dance floor.

08.15 4th Street Wine, Lightly Sparkled, Launch, Cape Town, Tamara Dey, Denzil Jacobs, Tyrone Nell, Thandie Kupe, Sue Duminy, Roxy Louw, Frank Muggeridge (by Denzil Jacobs)

Guests went all out in 1950’s style which made for a whimsical evening with live entertainment by Tamara Dey, delicious canap√©s, lots of candy and of cause 4th Street Lightly Sparkled Wine. It was lovely seeing so many friends including fashion blogger Clouds Drummond as we partied the evening away. This week, 4th Street Wines took the launch to Johannesburg with guests including some of South Africa’s most loved celebrities such as Jennifer Su. Of cause, the evening of fun didn’t end there, but let’s stop talking secrets, haha! Thank you 4th Street Wine for a lovely evening (and most importantly your¬†delicious new vino)!

Special thanks as always to Hilton Weiner and Levi’s SA for making sure I always look good!

photography: south african model brigitte willers

04.14 Photography, Denzil Jacobs Photography, Brigitte Willers, South African, Model (by Denzil Jacobs)

A previously unreleased photograph of South African fitness writer (The Jog Blog), model, television personality (Survivor SA) and my good friend Brigitte Willers. As the seasons were changing from autumn to summer here in Cape Town late last year, Brigitte and I met at her beautiful home to do a little photoshoot. This is one of my favorite images from that shoot, aside from the photographs featuring her little boy, Sam. A wonderful day rounded off with a few splashes of champagne and sunny weather. Such a pleasure photographing you Brigitte!
