world class launch of b.u.c. fitness club in cape town

08.30 BUC Fitness Club Launch, Cape Town, Concetta Rothschild, Paul Rothschild, Sharlene Lawrence, Nambitha Ben-Mazwi, Tracy McGregor, Kuyan Kotzen, Brent Thompson, Jasna Zellerhoff, Ryan Warrick (by Denzil Jacobs)

Certainly the high-light of my week last week was attending the launch of BUC Fitness Club in Sea Point, Cape Town. This state of the art fitness club is like none other, situated at The Point, 76 Regent Road, Sea Point, Cape Town, members enjoy a complete fitness regime with some of South Africa’s top personal trainers and equipment. BUC is also the home of the increasingly popular S.W.E.A.T.1000, hailed by Elle Magazine as “one of the hottest fitness trends for summer.” It was so nice to see fit and friendly faces including the owners Paul Rothschild and Andrew Rothschild along with Paul‘s lovely wife and my good friend Concetta Rothschild. Guests (and members) in attendance included models Tracy McGregor, Roxy Louw, Brent Thompson, Beverley Dean, fashion designer Hendrik Vermeulen, actors Bjorn Steinbach and Alex McGregor, fashion stylist Jasna Zellerhoff and my guest for the evening stylist Kuyan Kotzen. It was certainly a party to remember, and definitely the place to return to burn off those canapé & wine calories. Check out www.buc.cc and www.sweat1000.com to find out more about memberships or just to book a session – I’ll be stopping by BUC and Sweat 1000 soon and will be sure to write about my experience here, stay tuned… Summer is coming!!

luxury: tom ford private blend fragrance – tuscan leather

08.20 Tom Ford, Private Blend, Fragrance, Tuscan Leather (by Denzil Jacobs)

Most of my friends understand (or at least pretend to understand) my love of all things luxury, but here I’ve decided to talk a little about another passion of mine, fragrances. The Tom Ford Private Blend Fragrance range to me could be the best of both worlds, combining my passion for luxury and my love of fragrances. One of the most influential men in fashion (in the world), the genius that is Mr Tom Ford has released an impressive line of niche fragrances made of the finest ingredients. I sniffed a rose bases fragrance by Mr Ford called Cafe Rose, and it smells like an actual rose, like you’ve jumped into a rose… unparalelled! I’d like to talk a bit about one of my all time favorite Tom Ford fragrances that I recently purchased and love to wear out or even just at lounging at home if I need a little reminder of luxury (just to put a smile on my face), Tuscan Leather.

Tuscan Leather, this niche fragrance is so incredibly complex and actually smells like delicious, good old-fashioned fine leather. With a rustic robust opening, your senses are immediately whisked off to an ethereal vintage world. Hints of raspberry adds sweetness as the fragrance dries down, with the main note, leather, ever-present. It projects just enough (not too much, not too little) and lasts the whole day. It’s dry down is simply sweet leather, simple and elegant.

THIS ULTRA-SEXY INTERPRETATION CAPTURES THE PRIMAL, ANIMALISTIC SCENT OF LEATHER AND IT’S SMOOTH VOLUPTUOUS QUALITIES. A MODERN CLASSIC, THE ADDITION OF OLIBANUM, NIGHT BLOOMING JASMINE, AND BLACK SUEDE GIVES IT A DISTINCTIVE, MODERN SPIN THAT IS RAW YET REFINED, SENSUAL YET SOPHISTICATED.” – Tom Ford describes Tuscan Leather.

I absolutely love this fragrance, with Tom Ford‘s Tobacco Vanille coming in at a close second in my starting line-up of my all time favorite fragrances. I have worn Tuscan Leather to many events, premieres and social occasions and find that it’s most suited for black tie events, a little dressing up with a cheeky touch (raspberry sweetness) but also perfect for casual wear. Confident, sexy, cheeky, fun, formal, strong and mostly… manly. This is a very masculine fragrance in my opinion, however it is marketed as unisex (as is all Tom Ford Private Blend Fragrances). That said, I don’t believe any fragrance is for men or women only, whatever fragrance you like, you should wear regardless of the marketed target demographic.

The best leather fragrance in my opinion – Tom Ford Tuscan Leather.

Ps. Tom Ford Private Blend Fragrance range is now available at Edgars (V&A Waterfront) in Cape Town. It’s not cheap, but boy is it worth it!!

upcoming: gold charity gala dinner & auction (cape town)

08.19 Gold Charity Diner, Charity, Dinner, Cape Town (by Denzil Jacobs)

GOLD Charity Gala: A celebration of 10 years of youth-led change. In a spirit of thankfulness and in recognition of the hard work that has led to transformation in the lives of African youth, GOLD is hosting an event to mark ten years as a leading youth focussed strategy which has contributed to reduced youth risk behaviour in disadvantaged communities and inspired a revolution of hope amongst thousands at grassroots.

On 6 September 2014, Dr Michael Mol is the master of ceremonies, supported by Natalie Becker, at The Westin, one of Cape Town’s finest hotels.

The focus of this philanthropic evening is to honour a decade of involvement in youth behaviour change and education support and to raise funds and awareness for the GOLD Non-Profit Organisation. It promises to be an unforgettable experience, as guests have the opportunity to purchase items at a private auction whilst sipping on champagne and enjoying a spectacular 3-course supper paired with fine wine. All proceeds raised during the event will go to GOLD’s non-profit endeavours.

Imagine … ‘If influential young leaders changed their lives in positive ways and encouraged their peers to do the same. Imagine what the African continent could look like 40 years on….’

That is what drives GOLD Peer Education Development Agency and why CEO Susannah Farr believes that if you can turn negative peer pressure 360 degrees into positive pressure, it is the most powerful force for change. Rose-tinted glasses?  Not at all. Over the past ten years GOLD has done just that.  Not only have they reached thousands of young people in communities in South Africa, Botswana and Zambia, but the results and outcomes are measurable and phenomenal. It’s not just a feel-good perception. GOLD’s auditing process and the systems used enable donors to have absolute proof of return of social investment.

Inspired by the potential of young people driving change in Africa, rather than being the focus of unemployment, GOLD was founded as an NGO in 2004. The GOLD dream is to grow young leaders with character and integrity to mobilise their generation with the tools and support to reach their full potential, despite obstacles such as poverty, apathy, inadequate education, unemployment, orphanhood and HIV. Through a peer-led approach, GOLD provides a structured skills training and mentoring programme to influential young people who become passionate, measurable change agents amongst their peers, in their schools and communities and are able to access and maximise future study and work opportunities.

4th street wines introduces ‘lightly sparkled’ range in 50’s style

08.15 4th Street Wine, Lightly Sparkled, Launch, Cape Town, Roxy Louw, Frank Muggeridge (by Denzil Jacobs)

So of cause I was late for my hair appointment at Palladium Hair Co. last week (I mean, c’mon folks, I work on DJ time here!), but luckily my good friend and stylist Jasna Zellerhoff came to the rescue! After a few glasses of wine at their home, Tyrone Nell, his boyfriend Nic During and I hopped into Jasna‘s car and headed to the 4th Street Wines “Lightly Sparkled Launch” 1950’s themed event in Cape Town. Now, I knew from experience that 4th Street Wine don’t do things half way and that this was going to be a spectacular event, and it was. We arrived and were immediately whisked to the photo-wall, took some snaps and joined our friends including the gorgeous model and surfer Roxy Louw with her cousin Frank Muggeridge, television and radio personality Kia Johnson, Thandie Kupe, Sue Duminy, Busi Nteyi, Matthew Hallett and many more on the dance floor.

Guests went all out in 1950’s style which made for a whimsical evening with live entertainment by Tamara Dey, delicious canapés, lots of candy and of cause 4th Street Lightly Sparkled Wine. It was lovely seeing so many friends including fashion blogger Clouds Drummond as we partied the evening away. This week, 4th Street Wines took the launch to Johannesburg with guests including some of South Africa’s most loved celebrities such as Jennifer Su. Of cause, the evening of fun didn’t end there, but let’s stop talking secrets, haha! Thank you 4th Street Wine for a lovely evening (and most importantly your delicious new vino)!

Special thanks as always to Hilton Weiner and Levi’s SA for making sure I always look good!

MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK CAPE TOWN 2014 (ruald rheeder)

08.03 Fashion Week 2014, Cape Town, AFI, Mercedes-Benz, Ruald Rheeder, Tyrone Nell, Ryan Botha, Brent Thompson, K2Twins (by Denzil Jacobs)

It always adds a little extra festiveness at AFI (African Fashion InternationalMercedes-Benz Fashion Week Cape Town when you see a few friend saunter down the catwalk, and Ruald Rheeder‘s floral inspired Spring/Summer 2014 collection included some of my favorite faces. Television and radio personality Leigh-Anne Williams, models Tyrone NellBrent Thompson (have you seen his recent Men’s Health SA cover???), another Men’s Health cover boy Ryan Botha (also co-owner of Point Break Fitness in Cape Town) showed off their beautifully toned bodies at Ruald’s show. The new boys on the block, The K2 Twins (Alex & Charlie Kotze) also made an appearance. Despite his selection of models, it was certainly Ruald’s bold choices in design and his ability to keep his eye on pulse of internationally trending fashion that kept the audience captivated. Hey Ruald… I need a new designer for Summer, hint, hint!!

Keeping to a simple neutral palette in his womenswear collection, Ruald’s expression of summer is epitomized by simple elegance. From light flowing evening dresses to trendy day wear and provocative swimwear, this collection, in my opinion lends itself to the 1950’s and 1960’s demure elegance and sophistication, which can be dressed up for a night out on the town.

Special thanks to CelebsSAAlso thanks to Levis Strauss SA and Ruald Rheeder for dressing me for the evening.

mercedes-benz fashion week cape town 2014 (day 1)

07.31 Fashion Week 2014, Cape Town, AFI, Mercedes-Benz, Stefania Morland (by Denzil Jacobs) 01

After a spectacular gala dinner hosted by Dr Precious Molio-MotsepeAFI (African Fashion International) and Mercedes-Benz at the City Hall in Cape Town, the fashion started flowing and melting on the catwalks despite the rainy winter weather outside. With my gorgeous friend, South African actress and radio personality Natalie Becker, at my side, we sampled the eye-candy, fashion, wine and festivities. On day one, I attended only two shows, Gavin Rajah and Stefania Morland never failed to impress while staying true to their styles and showcasing their amazing Spring/Summer 2014 collections.

07.31 Fashion Week 2014, Cape Town, AFI, Mercedes-Benz, Gavin Rajah (by Denzil Jacobs) 02

Gavin Rajah‘s Japanese inspired collection dazzled with elegantly designed haute-couture and a ready-to-wear collection. His fearlessness in his design was evident as he ventured into bright colors such as fuchsia and purple, whilst also adding a more muted tones for his more extravagant gowns. There was certainly something for every type of women and every occasion. Hats off to Mr Rajah! After a quick glass of white wine and mingle in the lounge after the show, it was time to gather the troops for the next show.

07.31 Fashion Week 2014, Cape Town, AFI, Mercedes-Benz, Stefania Morland (by Denzil Jacobs) 03

Stefania! Yes, Stefania Morland may design exclusively womenswear, but her whimsical style is so infectious and I couldn’t help but sport a little grin through-out the show. With a quirky Chinese theme, each model gave us a quirky little wiggle at the end of the catwalk as Stefania’s designs hung effortlessly on their slender frames. It was all about whimsy, fun, cutesy-ness (if that’s even a word). Looks like this is set to be a pretty playful Summer in fashion.

And then it was off to the Official Belvedere Vodka Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Cape Town 2014 Opening Party, held at the trendy COCO nightclub in the city centre. It was so nice to spend some time with television personality and model Cindy Nell and her husband Clive Roberts, television personality Jennifer Su, model Roxy Louw with her cousin and model Frank Muggeridge and so many more. Thank you Vivid Luxury PR for putting together yet another fantastic opening party and Celebrity Services SA for the invitation to the fashion shows.
