moments with liezel van der westhuizen

Liezel van der Westhuizen 01

SABC3‘s The Expresso Show presenter Liezel van der Westhuizen has become a house hold name in South Africa for her television and radio work, but this bombshell has proven that she has a lot more to offer. Earlier this year, van der Westhuizen completed The Ultimate Duzi Canoe Marathon held in KZN, her second consecutive Duzi Marathon and is know training for the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour 2012. A first this year, she’ll be riding a custom-fitted techno-wonder bike that will be powered entirely by social media and it will be up to the public to get her across the finish line. In conjunction with the Cycle Tour, Pick ‘n Pay‘s digital marketing team have created the ‘Like Bike’. A bike powered solely by “likes” on the Pick ‘n Pay Facebook Page. For every “like” Liezel receives, 10 meters will be added to the distance she is able to ride on race day, Sunday 11 March 2012.

Likes” work like any other fuel, without them Liezel will have to cool her heels until a supporter tops up her tank. By logging onto the Pick ‘n Pay Facebook site (or http://m.likebike.co.za on a mobile device) and “liking” the bike you will do your bit to propel the bike and Liezel 10 meters closer to the finish line. Additionally, every 10 Km that she completes, the Pick ‘n Pay Velokhaya Life Cycling Academy, which focuses on getting youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds on their bikes and cycling, will receive a brand new bike and with a total distance of 110Km, 11 bikes will be donated if the Like Bike makes it all the way.

Here’s a quick fun video with Liezel… JustForTheNostalgia

Catch Liezel van der Westhuizen on SABC3’s The Expresso Show week day mornings at 5:30am and on 567KFM and follow her on Facebook and Twitter.
