My Top Billing Dream, Lynelle Kenned, Chamendran Naidoo (by Denzil Jacobs)

In Top Billing spectacular style, Jonathan Boynton-Lee was selected as this year’s My Top Billing Dream winner last Tuesday. I took some time to chat with Lynelle Kenned, Chamendran Naidoo, Zama Ngcobo and Lauren Blackwell about their experiences as part of the Top 10 contestants on the reality show. A roller-coaster of experiences and emotions for each of the contestants, from the opportunity to live at one of Cape Town’s top hotels, 15 On Orange Hotel and be competing for the top spot on SA television’s premiere lifestyle show.

Top 4 contestant, Lynelle Kenned: “It’s about being good at not just one thing, but learning and continually pushing yourself and growing,” Lynelle adds. We spoke about Lynelle’s background in singing, as an opera singer and performing for a crowd and how that influenced her success in the competition. “More than anything, the opportunity that all of u got is just amazing. I’m so happy and proud of Jonathan,” says Lynelle, “I’m going to look forward to seeing him on TV every week.” she continues with a smile.

Top 4 contestant, Chamendran Naidoo: “I think from the start, ’til the end I showed continual growth and think that’s what kept me in the competition,” says Chamendran. “I was easy to teach and willing to learn.” A much more confidant Chamendran that at the start of the competition, we spoke about the surprise of being told he was selected from thousands of hopefuls to be a part of the Top 10. “The Top 4 and the Top 10, we all support him, we knew him from day one ’til the end.” Chamendran says about winner, Jonathan.

Top 4 contestant, Zama Ngcobo: “All in all it was new territory for me. I experienced and learnt a lot. Every task I was given from the beginning of the competition was new ground for me, and I performed to the best of my ability,” says Zama.

Top 5 contestant, Lauren Blackwell: Eliminated just a week after her interview with international pop star, Justin Bieber, Lauren has taken time to consider her future goals in media, acting and presenting. At the age of 19, she understands her achievement of being selected as a finalist in the competition. “I am so young, I’m 19 and I’m in the Top 10, now I’m 19 and I’m going to Australia, now I’m 19 and I’m interviewing Justin Bieber. I was very very fortunate,” Lauren says about her interview with Bieber. “I want to go back to studying. I want to do film, whether it’s directing, producing or acting, but I definitely want to be involved in media.”

lauren wallett talks about journey on “my top billing dream”

My Top Billing Dream - Lauren Wallett

I sat down with Lauren Wallett at the luxurious 15 On Orange Hotel in Cape Town to talk about her time on SABC3‘s “My Top Billing Dream” Reality Show. The third contestant voted off last week, Lauren has remained as confidant and driven as ever after the elimination. A trained actor, hailing from Durban, Lauren taught at her own performing arts school, which she attributes to giving her confidence to peruse her dreams, “I had a performing arts school for children, very much focused on building confidence and I’m still very passionate about that,” says Wallett.

“I feel that I’ve become more and more myself. I don’t see this as my chance to be famous, I want to be a working presenter, working actress,” says Lauren. Having been a part of the top 10 for 4 weeks and experiencing a whirlwind of the excitement, long hours, hard work and glamour of the industry, Lauren’s advise to others is that “It’s very important to remain true to yourself and not get swayed by anybody. Be yourself,” and continues, “You need to know who you are, because it’s going to test you completely. I’m going to carry on, now I’m certain.”

The Top 7 contestants are Chamendran Naidoo, Jonathan Boynton-Lee, Lauren Blackwell, Khanya Ngumbela, Lynelle Kenned, Greg Kriek and Zama Ngcobo.
