upcoming: gold charity gala dinner & auction (cape town)

08.19 Gold Charity Diner, Charity, Dinner, Cape Town (by Denzil Jacobs)

GOLD Charity Gala: A celebration of 10 years of youth-led change. In a spirit of thankfulness and in recognition of the hard work that has led to transformation in the lives of African youth, GOLD is hosting an event to mark ten years as a leading youth focussed strategy which has contributed to reduced youth risk behaviour in disadvantaged communities and inspired a revolution of hope amongst thousands at grassroots.

On 6 September 2014, Dr Michael Mol is the master of ceremonies, supported by Natalie Becker, at The Westin, one of Cape Town’s finest hotels.

The focus of this philanthropic evening is to honour a decade of involvement in youth behaviour change and education support and to raise funds and awareness for the GOLD Non-Profit Organisation. It promises to be an unforgettable experience, as guests have the opportunity to purchase items at a private auction whilst sipping on champagne and enjoying a spectacular 3-course supper paired with fine wine. All proceeds raised during the event will go to GOLD’s non-profit endeavours.

Imagine … ‘If influential young leaders changed their lives in positive ways and encouraged their peers to do the same. Imagine what the African continent could look like 40 years on….’

That is what drives GOLD Peer Education Development Agency and why CEO Susannah Farr believes that if you can turn negative peer pressure 360 degrees into positive pressure, it is the most powerful force for change. Rose-tinted glasses?  Not at all. Over the past ten years GOLD has done just that.  Not only have they reached thousands of young people in communities in South Africa, Botswana and Zambia, but the results and outcomes are measurable and phenomenal. It’s not just a feel-good perception. GOLD’s auditing process and the systems used enable donors to have absolute proof of return of social investment.

Inspired by the potential of young people driving change in Africa, rather than being the focus of unemployment, GOLD was founded as an NGO in 2004. The GOLD dream is to grow young leaders with character and integrity to mobilise their generation with the tools and support to reach their full potential, despite obstacles such as poverty, apathy, inadequate education, unemployment, orphanhood and HIV. Through a peer-led approach, GOLD provides a structured skills training and mentoring programme to influential young people who become passionate, measurable change agents amongst their peers, in their schools and communities and are able to access and maximise future study and work opportunities.

all about fashion at the met gala 2012

The Met Gala 2012, Beyonce Knowles, Lea Michele, Rihanna, Clare Danes

Fashion’s finest came out to play at the Met Gala 2012 in New York, often referred to as referred to as “fashion’s Oscars“. Beyoncé Knowles took the spotlight at the A-list event, after giving birth to daughter Blue Ivy Carter in January, the 30-year-old’s figure looked sensational in her sheer sequin Givenchy Haute Couture gown. When asked by a reporter at the event about having more children, Beyoncé replied “I definitely want to have more. I don’t know how many. God knows I don’t know yet.” Gala chairs, Anna Wintour (editor in chief of Vogue magazine), Carey Mulligan and Muccia Prada received guests including Clare Danes, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kanye West, Tom Brady, Gisele Bundchen, Rihanna, Cameron Diaz, Elizabeth Banks, Scarlett Johansson, Lea Michele and Rihanna at the Metropolitan Museum of Art‘s annual ball, dressed in haute couture. Justin Timberlake, wearing a Tom Ford tuxedo attended the event with his fiancée, Jessica Biel. After a record-breaking success of ‘The Avengers’Johansson arrived in a custom Dolce & Gabbana gown, a solid gold creation to match her box-office triumph. “The dressing part was easy,” said Rihanna, running into the museum moments after the red carpet closed in a body-hugging black alligator skin Tom Ford gown with some major fingernails to match, “My nails took forever. They’re like claws.” It seems that Rihanna may have some fashion designing up her sleeve, “Designing is definitely in the near future for me. We’re working on it as we speak” said the pop star.
