conor mccreedy – african ocean

Conor Mccreedy Paintings 02

South African artist Conor Mccreedy recently opened his latest exhibition ‘African Ocean‘ at The Charles Bank Gallery in New York, a series of paintings inspired by his birthplace, South Africa. “Some of the artworks have been created on the finest Belgian and French linen primed with rabbit skin glue. I have also created artwork on old giant windows with glass and chains still intact, which I obtained from abandoned Soho lofts, other pieces have been painted on wooden boards,” says McCreedy about “African Ocean“. Conor explains that he has grown and evolved as an artist in his latest exhibition, souring beyond portraiture to explore unchartered waters in new-expressionism and abstraction. Drawing inspiration from his travels through Africa, he will always have a connection to his heritage in South Africa. “The raw power and mysterious void of the ocean is my inspiration and message“, Conor talks about his time spent with in the African bush with grown male lions who’s powerful energy complimented their majestic calmness and places that thought next to images of where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet at Cape Point, “The “African Oceans” series has been inspired by my personal archive of explosive, emotional and haunting imagery“. Unique to this exhibition is the use of photography, in only one piece, “I have used it in this exhibition to give an example from my photographic series which combines my photography with my blue pigments,” says Mccreedy. “The blue pigment that I use conveys a sense of ambiguity. It is a unique substance out of which almost elemental water emerges as I combine it with more: rich mixed pigment, acrylic mixer, and thickener. It is both endless and finite.” His installation at The Charles Bank Gallery will run until 24 April 2012 and on 25 April 2012 his work will be exhibited at The Blue Building on East 46th Street, New York.

talking film – zac efron & taylor schilling in ‘the lucky one’

The Lucky One - Zac Efron, Taylor Schilling, Blythe Danner

A steamy film adaptation of the novel penned by Nicholas Sparks starring 5’8″ heartthrob Zac Efron who gained over 18 pounds to showcasing his Marine muscles alongside the lucky Taylor Schilling playing his co-star in the upcoming film ‘The Lucky One‘. “I was very nervous,Schilling admitted, “I met Zac in hair and makeup and we just hit it off immediately.Efron‘s first mature role, he needed to add a few pounds and muscle up a little for the role, “By the end of the movie I didn’t recognize myself,” says Efron about his intense training program for the film. “You hear about guys like Christian Bale who dive into it and are really able to transform. I’ve always wondered if I had the willpower to actually do it. And I’ll always have pride around the sense that I can.” Efron plays Logan, the typical strong silent type, a soldier at war, who finds a photo of a young lady left behind by one if his fallen comrades. “He just knows deep down in his heart that his next mission is to find this girl and to thank her,” explains Efron. Logan manages to track down Beth, played by Taylor Schilling in Louisiana without knowing whether she had lost someone at war as well. Before Logan could explain his true reason for finding her, their journey of love and lust begins as Logan is swept into a job. Logan offers Beth support and a presence in her life that she hasn’t had before, “We meet her at a moment where she doesn’t really know how to handle this relationship that’s falling apart and through Logan I think that she is able to sand up for herself,” says Schilling. Ellie, played by Blythe Danner senses the spark between Beth and Logan while Beth tries to navigate the emotion left behind by her little boy’s father. “I think the harder part is doing some of the emotional scenes and then once those are done, it’s like, you want me to kiss you? Meh. No big deal,” says Efron about the emotional and intimate scenes. The film portrays a realist journey toward a strong relationship as Logan and Beth grow closer but things become difficult when Beth discovers the photograph that brought Logan into her life.

This is definitely the most mature role I’ve done yet. I loved the experience,” says Efron, but later jokes “I couldn’t improv, or laugh or tell any jokes, any fun stuff, couldn’t sing, man! I would break into song and dance, but nobody would join me.”

The lucky One hits US cinema on 20 April 2012 and will be screened in South Africa from 25 May 2012. Go to to TheLuckyOneMovie for more information.

mariah carey & nick cannon visit friends with ‘dem babies’

Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon, Moroccan Scott Cannon, Monroe Cannon, Dem Babies - 16 April 2012

Mariah Carey and her comedian/rapper husband Nick Cannon were out and about earlier this week with their adorable children Monroe and Moroccan Scott Cannon. In amazing shape, Mariah wore a pair of tight red jeans with a cream and red cardigan and bright red high heels, while 31 year old Nick channeled his inner child with a pair of baggy shorts, a printed T-shirt and had his cap placed on the side of his head with bright cream high-top trainers as the family made their way to visit Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz. Dem Babies, now 11 months old, looked very cute and comfortable in their car seats surrounded by stuffed toys. After recent health problems, Nick looks a lot happier and healthier and seems to be recovering very well – Find out more about Nick at NickCannon.com as he shares videos of himself with his family and of his recovery.
